Physical Education

St Ferdinand School offers Physical Education to all students, beginning in preschool.  Each class is specially geared toward that specific age group.

  • Pre-K students are introduced to the gym environment and basic movement skills. The class will focus on low-organized play, including movement challenges and group games. These activities will work on safety, understanding instructional language, and introducing movement concepts.

  • The students will also be introduced to various manipulative skills.
  • Elementary students learn to demonstrate the qualities of movement (time, space, direction) as they perform a variety of fundamental locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Students will learn to manipulate objects with purposeful movement (throwing, striking, kicking, bouncing). Fitness development exercises are introduced and practiced through all class levels. Units of instruction include safety, social skills, fitness, movement qualities and manipulatives.
  • Junior high students participate in a program consisting of skill development, lead up games, team sports and physical fitness activities.

The students receive instruction in rules, skills, and strategies associated with the different sports, and learning experiences involving physical conditioning activities. Individual sport units will be presented so students can explore life-long physical activity opportunities. Cooperation, leadership, fair play and friendly competition are encouraged.
